Job Description

Are you interested in supporting the operational effectiveness of a nonprofit organization while supporting, strengthening, and promoting global organizations dedicated to preserving ocean environments around the world? The Ocean Foundation, a DC based non-profit international community foundation is looking for an Accountant to join our team!

This position will support the organization as a part of the Finance & Operations team. Some essential responsibilities will include processing invoices and expenses, making bank deposits and preparing monthly programmatic financial reports.  This position will also support the organization through other finance tasks such as preparation of cash, credit card, and other asset and liability account reconciliations for month-end and year-end, preparation of annual audit schedules and assisting with the annual budgeting process.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work on diverse teams or with a diverse range of individuals
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, coupled with the utmost attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong data entry skills
  • Strong understanding of fund accounting
  • Experienced QuickBooks Pro desktop accounting software user
  • Experienced spreadsheet user (MS Excel and Google Sheets)
  • MS Office and Google suite proficiency
  • Spanish language a plus
  • At least four years of recent experience as an accountant; exempt organization experience a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting strongly desired
  • Finance background is a plus
